NEW Percussion Instuments

The Shelby Whippet Band will be taking the field this fall in support of the Shelby Whippet football team and are already hard at work rehearsing music and sharpening marching skills needed for our traditional pre-game and entertaining halftime performances. This year, thanks to the Shelby Band Parents and a donation from the Shelby Foundation, the percussion section will be playing brand new Yamaha marching percussion instruments. Students have been working during the summer months assembling the new instruments, harnesses and stadium hardware for use this fall. The Shelby Whippet Band is eager to showcase these new instruments at the first home football game, when the Whippets will host our neighbors, the Lexington Minutemen. Hope to see you in the stands!

Shelby Whippet Band to tour Washington D.C.

The Shelby Whippet Band will be traveling to Washington D.C. on May 1st, 2008. The band will be visiting sites in our nation's capitol, including The Marine Barracks for the Friday Evening Parade, a tour of the memorials, the US Capitol, the National Cathederal, and will be giving a concert during their trip. This will be the band's fourth trip to Washington D.C. since 1996.

SWB Invites You to Homecoming Festivities 2007

The annual Homecoming Bonfire will be held on Thursday, October 11th at 8:15pm on the practice field next to Skiles Field. In addition to the band, the Shelby Whippet Football team, coaches and cheerleaders will participate. Please come down and join us as we support the Shelby Whippets as they prepare for their meeting with the Bellevue Redmen.

On Friday, October 12th, the SWB invites all Shelby Whippets to a pre-game pep rally in the Shelby Middle School auditorium at 6pm. The Shelby Whippet Band will play highlights from the pre-game and halftime show, and will also showcase various sections of the band with section cheers and spirit songs. Hope to see alumni and community members in the audience that evening as we support our Shelby Whippets!

The Shelby Whippet Band is currently making plans for our eighth trip to
Disneyworld from April 7-13, 2006. Specific details for the trip will be forthcoming, but the itinerary will be similar to the last 7 trips. The band first traveled to Orlando in the spring of 1978 under the supervision of Dwight Somerville and Jack Gray. The band has been invited to perform as a member of the cast of Disney every four years since that first
trip.

We are looking forward to hearing the announcer say, "Ladies and Gentlemen, from Shelby Ohio, the Shelby Whippet Band." Hope to see you along the parade route!
