Shelby
Middle School would like to welcome everyone to the 2008~2009 school year. Located
in the original Shelby High School building, which was built in 1924, the middle
school is home to all of the district’s seventh and eighth graders.
While the belief in the middle school philosophy remains strong in Shelby, there
are a number of changes to the teams and schedule this school year. Adding reading
as a subject to the core academic teams, and continuing quarterly grading periods
are two important changes that were kept in place this fall. However, the move
from four core academic teams to three core academic teams is undoubtedly the
most dramatic of the changes that were made this past summer. The Mustangs (Motivating
and Urging Students to Achieve New Goals Successfully) is composed of 125 seventh
graders. The Eagles (Eager Adolescents Gaining Lifelong Educational Skills)
is comprised of 120 eighth graders. Our third core academic team, the Sharks
(Studying Hard Always Results in Knowledgeable Students), is made up of 60 seventh
graders and 65 eighth graders. All three core academic teams offer the subjects
of math, science, social studies, language arts, and reading. Two very important
components of the middle school remain unchanged from previous years; the Life
courses and consists of: band, choir family and consumer sciences, art, sci
tech, physical education, health, computers, and life skills. The Owls (Open
Windows Lead to Success) team serves our students who have multiple handicaps.
2008~2009 promises to be a great year at Shelby Middle School. Please feel free
to stop by at your convenience and share the experience with us.
